Projected Opening Date – Early December
Homewood Mountain Resort has invested in its snowmaking and grooming capabilities, new food offerings at its South Base, and has joined over 10 additional ski resort partners to offer free ski days to Homewood season pass holders. The resort will also offer back-country and snowcat guide training for the first time, and welcome the return of signature, community-focused events including Beer & Gear and the Pride Ride.
Here are more specific highlights:
Expanded Snowmaking & Grooming Capabilities, New Cat
All Homewood needs this winter to get the ski season open is some cold temperatures to complement their expanded snowmaking system. They now have access to more water sources that will double the resort’s snowmaking capabilities. They also purchased a new PistenBilly winch cat to get into and groom some of their well-respected advanced terrains.
In partnership with the North American Ski Training Center (NASTC), the resort will provide professional back-country rescue and safety protocols; the program will also include avalanche hazard awareness and other critical skills that one should know before heading into the backcountry.
Projected Opening Date -November 29, 2019
Since 1939, Sugar Bowl Resort has offered one of the nation’s biggest snowpacks and finest ski conditions in North America. Lucky for us, and those who live and work in the Sierra, it’s also conveniently located just off Interstate-80 and the closest resort to the greater Bay Area.
Fans of Sugar Bowl can look forward to some improvements at their resort as well this winter. They have just completed a multi-year, $8-million snowmaking project that is noted to ‘double their capacity’ to produce snow when the temperatures are right.
Although its traditionally been a favorite for alpine skiers since it installed the first chairlift in California back in the day, today it’s also a favorite spot for snowboarders and terrain park enthusiasts; the latter of which will be treated to 18 new features in its popular park, plus – a new 14=foot mini pipe.
Come Enjoy the High Sierra All Year-Round
While the beautiful Fall season continues to give all of us a reason to enjoy the great outdoors, we encourage you to do the same. It will be snowing before we know it!
