For those of you with little ones still in the nest, you know just how important the month of October can be. For your little goblins, empty nesters, or free and single folks, October overflows with spooktacular ways to celebrate what that the Halloween season is all about throughout our hometown and the High Sierra.
If you are into paranormal activity, or not, there are plenty of events on tap this month for all ages to enjoy. How about a Historical Haunted Tour of Truckee? Or Halloweekend at Homewood – complete with ghostly chairlift rides?
Want more ideas on where to go and what to do in Truckee/Tahoe? Just come on by the Elder Group Tahoe Real Estate Office in Truckee or contact us at any time!
Start your Spooktacular Halloween celebration at the historic Pope-Baldwin Estates. The drive along the west shore this time of the year is spectacular as well. What will you experience? Here is what the organizers have to say on their website:
“Tempt your fate in Tahoe Terror at the Baldwin Estate, Lake Tahoe’s most haunting Halloween experience. Step into the transformed Baldwin Estate which will feature unimaginable scares, yet unsolved historical mysteries and ghoulish thrills that cannot be found anywhere else. This event has all the ingredients of a truly spectacular outdoor Halloween experience.
The fee is only $10 and is a fundraiser for the Tahoe Heritage Foundation/Tallac Historic Site’s mission from the care of the historic Pope -Baldwin Estates property and programs that will keep the Tallac Historic Site culturally relevant for the next 100 years.
This is a fun idea for a group or corporate outing. It’s the Historical Haunted Tour of Truckee which sells out every year. And with good reason. There might not be any other experience like this throughout the High Sierra and beyond. Here’s how they describe what awaits you and yours:
“Each year the highly anticipated performances take place in new featured haunts. Our scriptwriter, Cayman Levonian, has skillfully weaved together dramatic hauntings and downright funny stories inspired by times of yore. The Historic Tour is complete with treats and tricks…your VIP group will be thoroughly entertained, occasionally harassed and sometimes doted upon.”
This VIP tour is produced by Trails & Vistas (a local non-profit) and benefits the arts and culture of Truckee Tahoe, including the Art in Nature Dreaming Tree Field Trips for local 3rd-grade students.

Homewood Mountain Resort
This is a 100% family fun event that you don’t want to miss! Leave it to the creative crew at one of our favorite Lake Tahoe ski resorts to take advantage of the season in such a creative way. It’s the Halloweekend at Homewood, and it’s a perfect place to celebrate the season – before the ski season!
Their website tells it best:
“Join us for a peak-to-shore fright-fest featuring spooky fun for the whole family. Take a stroll through the trick-or-treat village at South Base featuring free scary movie showings, face painting, pumpkin decorating, and surprises from local vendors. For a truly terrifying experience, join us at dusk for a chilling chairlift ride – if you dare! Scare Disclosure: If you have little ones who are easily frightened, we recommend planning to ride the chairlift before dusk (3:00 – 6:00 pm), as it’ll be a high scare factor once the sun sets. At the base area, the festival itself is suited for all ages.”
On behalf of our entire real estate company in Truckee, CA, we wish you a very safe and spooky Halloween season. When these celebrations are over, there will be more holiday events to enjoy throughout the region. Watch for our next edition, and then some, to learn all about Thanksgiving and the blessed Christmas season in the High Sierra.
